Parent Knowledge Base

Everything you need to prepare your child for their swimming journey!

📚 Guides & Checklists 💡 Expert Tips 🛡️ Safety First

First Day Swim Bag Checklist

Prepare your child for a successful first lesson with this essential checklist:

  • Fitted swimsuit (UV rashguards recommended for sun protection)
  • Comfortable silicone goggles — properly fitted to prevent leaks
  • Soft towel & dry clothing — for after-lesson warmth and comfort
  • Reusable swim diapers (Mandatory for under 3 years)
  • Water bottle — staying hydrated is important during lessons
  • Swim cap — recommended for long hair to keep it out of the face
  • Healthy snack — for post-swim energy replenishment

Pooldeck Rules for Parents

To ensure maximum concentration for swimmers, parents are requested to view lessons from our glass lounge. Running on pool decks is strictly prohibited.

  • View from the lounge: Our glass viewing lounge offers a clear view of all pools
  • No running: Wet surfaces can be slippery — please walk carefully
  • Supervise siblings: Younger siblings must remain seated in the lounge area
  • No photography: For privacy, no photography is allowed during lessons

Pre & Post Swim Nutrition Tips

Proper nutrition helps your child perform better and recover faster:

  • Before swimming: Light meal 1-2 hours before — banana, toast, or oatmeal
  • Avoid heavy meals: Large meals can cause discomfort during swimming
  • After swimming: Protein-rich snack — yogurt, cheese, or nut butter
  • Hydration: Encourage water before, during, and after the lesson
  • Electrolytes: Coconut water or sports drinks for longer sessions

Goggle Fitting Guide

Proper goggle fit prevents leaks and discomfort. Follow these steps:

  • Place goggles over eyes without using the strap — they should stay in place
  • Adjust the strap to fit comfortably around the head
  • Check for suction: Press gently to create a seal
  • Kids' sizes: Choose smaller frames designed for children's faces
  • Anti-fog: Consider goggles with anti-fog coating for clear vision

Understanding Swim Lesson Progression

Swim levels at littleexplorerzone follow a structured progression:

  • Level 1: Water acclimation — bubbles, floating, and basic water comfort
  • Level 2: Kicking and breath control — independent floating and kicking
  • Level 3: Freestyle and backstroke — introducing stroke technique
  • Level 4: Stroke refinement — improving efficiency and endurance
  • Level 5: Advanced strokes — breaststroke, butterfly, and competitive skills
  • Junior Squad: Race preparation, stamina, and team training

Most children advance one level every 8-12 weeks with consistent attendance.

Health & Safety Guidelines

Your child's safety is our priority. Please observe these guidelines:

  • Health check: Do not bring your child if they have a fever or contagious illness
  • Ear infections: Consult your doctor before swimming with ear infections
  • Skin conditions: Inform us of any skin conditions or allergies
  • Asthma: Bring rescue inhaler and inform coach of triggers
  • Emergency contact: Keep emergency contact information updated

Parent Participation Guide

Your role in your child's swimming journey is invaluable:

  • Baby Splash: Parents are active participants in the water with their child
  • Beginner level: Parents may assist with changing and encouraging
  • Support from the side: Cheer quietly to maintain focus during lessons
  • Practice at home: Encourage water play during bath time
  • Celebrate milestones: Reward progress with positive reinforcement
